Casey Neistat Vlog Review
Today we discuss what it is that makes Casey’s vlog 6 million plus subscribers success and the trials and tribulations he has gone through.
Casey’ is a very motivated person that likes to smile and makes jokes with people. His personality is very positive and he even has a “do more” tattoo signifying his drive in life. Let’s see how he has made money and made mistakes.
Let’s start with Casey’s early history of his passion for making videos. He always had a passion for making videos and even if they were not paid, he records pretty much everything from cyclones to beach adventures. He does not have formal education in this field however he does have a burning ambition for making great content that people love.
So what actually happened is that he kept doing what he loved and eventually created his own view of what a great video should be and coupled with a logical timeline and super content this keeps people interested.
Why was Casey chosen for this review?
He is an entrepreneur for an app called Beme. The app is similar to Snapchat and incorporates sharing of small videos to friends and contacts. Beme has recently been sold to CNN for 25 million dollars, although the app is now shut down.
Check out Beme info here : https://techcrunch.com/2015/07/28/a-week-in-casey-neistats-new-app-beme-has-1-1m-videos-shared/
Why was it shut down?
The app was not performing very well, it was not generating the traffic it needed in order to make an impact that would allow the developers to continue.
Why was it not doing well?
The app was competing against Snapchat doing something too similar to differentiate and get the grasp it needed in order to succeed.
Snapchat’s revenue in 2016 was $404.5 million and had an increase of 600% from 2015($59 million).
For pretty much any company this would be a massive competitor to take on with tons of revisions of the snap chat app to make it what is is today.
How ever Casey still managed to sell Beme to CNN which means he has made a successful company and made a profit.
What could Casey have done differently?
There were quite a few pitfalls. The app was too similar to Snapchat, and secondly, he released iOS for almost a year before the android, Android has a massive market and took over iOS in 2015.Things not to do when making an app.
Casey still has his Youtube vlog and I suspect he will use the money has from the sale of Beme to put toward another company or toward his videos.
It is extremely important to make a business in a niche market that is well run. What Casey did a great job on was that he hired some of the best programmers he could afford to make the app and that is why he had the success he had. He had many brilliant minds driving his company forward and even tho his app was under constant pressure it pushed forward against all odds due to teamwork and intelligent thinking. You too can make a staggeringly successful business, just learn from others.
