Arduino VS Raspberry PI
Let’s give you some context.
Been working with Arduino units for the past 10 years, through that time worked with the Uno and the YUN as these are the more popular and easy to work with.
Would like to go in-depth into the progress I made, firstly started out with the led lights on and off, then I went onto an LCD screen, this all went well.
Decided that I would like something more challenging.
Went onto building a rover, first I ordered all the parts, which were expensive as they are imported from Italy.
As a student, working with equipment that is cheap and reliable is very important to progression through the hurdles of robotics.Arduino is extremely expensive.
After ordered the rover items I discovered that there is little to no information about any of the components.
Determined I started to research each and understand little by little from forums and since I was studying a computer science degree learn as I went along.
There were road blocks such as poor quality H Bridges, and so eventually I got a working prototype together after years of on and off attempts.
Then moving onto the shields for the Arduino, incorrect documentation and illogical instructions lead me to overpowering the voltage through the Arduino unit.
Thought at least I will reorder another and try again. The company had updated their hardware software to a nonworking version.
When questioned about this Arduino do not know what the problem was.
Then basically lost interest because they still do not have ay legitimate documentation.
Motor shields for a rover ONLY GO ONE DIRECTION, HOW DIM!
Very disappointed in the months of trying to get the correct unit and documentation I changed to buying the pcduino which is also rubbish.
The operating system is inferior and slow.
All in all, Arduino gave me massive problems and spent close to $3000 on unreliable units and a lot of hassle.
Decided to go to the competition.
Raspberry pi let’s go!
Bought it and discovered many useful tutorials and was amazed at the speed and ease it was to set up a web server.
Really love the Rasbpian interface and the speed is so much faster than the comparable pcduino.
Was so surprised I really enjoyed it and got more involved and started to rebuild my rover.
Wrote a new script and it worked like a dream.
Ordered my new H Bridges, and await hooking them up to the rover.
Total cost so far $100
